The ceremonial signing, held at H2O Hotel, signifies the company's transition to JNEC under the Energy Regulatory Commission's Retail Competition and Open Access program. The switch is expected to help Manila Ocean Park better manage its electricity costs while supporting the continued operations and expansion of its business.

“This marks a fresh and good start for us. It is a good thing that we crossed paths with JNEC,” Manila Ocean Park Operations Director Jonnel Nicolas shared during the signing ceremony, emphasizing the importance of sustaining operational efficiency. The company also expressed hope that JNEC can become part of future opportunities as its group continues to grow its portfolio, including Cebu Ocean Park, an upcoming property in Boracay, an attraction in Tagaytay, and I'M Hotel in Makati.

JNEC reaffirmed its commitment to build a long-term partnership with Manila Ocean Park beyond the initial supply agreement.

“We are not only talking about one year or two years of contract. We are looking for partnership. We want to ensure that our company is here for the long term,” JNEC President and CEO Jose Alfonso Miras said during his message of commitment.

A portion of JNEC's supply to Manila Ocean Park will come from renewable energy sources, including solar rooftop and ground-mounted projects developed by its affiliate, SOLARIS. This includes SOLARIS' NING*NING project, a utility-scale solar rooftop installed across socialized housing communities such as in Naic, Cavite.

Through the NING*NING project, SOLARIS partners with homeowners in socialized housing communities, allowing them to take part in the country's renewable energy transition. Part of the revenue generated from the project supports community improvements, such as ambulances, garbage collection trucks, streetlights, and other facilities for the benefit of the homeowners.

JNEC also highlighted that the partnership provides Manila Ocean Park access to a more competitive power supply, especially amid global developments that continue to affect energy prices.

“This is not only about supplying power to Manila Ocean Park. It is also about supporting the energy transition, taking advantage of cheaper supply from renewable resources, and helping the homeowners we are partnering with for our rooftop project,” Miras concluded.
